Breast Augmentation & Implants FAQ

What Are My Breast Implant or Fat Transfer Options?

How Long Is Breast Augmentation Recovery?

Do I Need to Replace Breast Implants After 10 Years?

Can I Breastfeed After Breast Augmentation Surgery?

You have more choices than ever when it comes to selecting breast implants, which enable Dr. Camp to customize the procedure to best suit your body and aesthetic goals. Instead of breast implants, fat transfer breast augmentation is also an option. Breast implant options include:

Most patients can return to work within 3 to 5 days after surgery, depending on the nature of their jobs. Dr. Camp provides detailed postoperative instructions to help limit any discomfort and enhance the healing process. It’s recommended that you have your prescriptions already filled, and you’ll need someone to drive you home following the outpatient procedure. Expect swelling, bruising, and soreness to peak during those first few days and feel free to contact our office with any questions or concerns.

This is an outdated “rule of thumb” that is often repeated on the internet. There is no reason to replace or remove breast implants if you’re happy with the way your breasts look and there are no complications. Some women have implants for 15 to 20 years.

Dr. Camp offers complimentary annual follow-up after your breast augmentation surgery to ensure that your implants continue to remain in good condition.

Getting breast implants rarely interferes with a woman’s ability to breastfeed her infant. It is important to discuss your plans about raising a family with your plastic surgeon because it typically influences the choice of incision location. A periareolar incision—made on the lower edge of the areola—can potentially disrupt the milk ducts, so it should be avoided.

"Dr. Camp is truly amazing! I had consulted with 3 other plastic surgeons and knew right away Dr. Camp was the one I wanted for my breast augmentation revision surgery. I knew I needed a considerable amount of work to get the look I wanted but Dr. Camp never batted an eye. I needed a breast augmentation revision with internal bra, fat transfer and a lift. I got phenomenal results!! The care I received from Dr. Camp's office to the hospital staff was amazing. It was definitely worth the 5.5 hour drive to have Dr. Camp perform this surgery!."

RealSelf 5-Star Review

You may be an ideal candidate for this procedure if you relate to the following goals and criteria:

Are You a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

  • Desire for Enhanced Volume: Breast augmentation can help you achieve a more voluptuous figure by increasing the size and fullness of your breasts.
  • Asymmetry Correction: Breast augmentation creates a more balanced appearance if your breasts are uneven in size or shape.
  • Post-Pregnancy Restoration: If pregnancy or breastfeeding has caused your breasts to lose volume, augmentation restores your pre-pregnancy shape (and can even improve it!).
  • Good Overall Health: Ideal candidates are in good overall health, without conditions that could complicate surgery or recovery. It's important to have realistic expectations and a positive outlook.
  • Stable Weight: Being at a stable weight ensures you get the best, longest-lasting results from the procedure.
  • Nonsmoker: Smoking interferes with healing, so candidates should be nonsmokers or willing to quit before and after the surgery.

Credentials you Can Trust

Most patients can return to light activities and nonstrenuous work within a few days to a week. Full recovery, including the complete resolution of swelling and the settling of implants, can take several months.

How long does recovery take?

What will the scars look like after breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation scars are hidden in the breast crease and typically fade until they are barely noticeable. The incision for Preservé augmentation is even smaller than the traditional technique, resulting in an even smaller scar.

The cost of breast augmentation varies based on several factors, including the type of implants used, the complexity of the procedure, and any additional treatments you may choose to combine with your augmentation. During your consultation, Dr. Camp and his team will provide a detailed, customized cost estimate and discuss financing options to help make your desired transformation more accessible.

Common Questions About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a significant decision, and it's natural to have questions about the procedure, recovery, and what to expect. Here are some of the most common questions we receive from our patients:

You can customize the procedure based on your preferences and desired outcomes with these options:

  • Implant Size: You can choose your implant size based on your personal preference, body proportions, and desired increase in breast volume.
  • Implant Shape: Implants come in different shapes, including round and teardrop (anatomical).
  • Implant Material: Two primary types of breast implants are used in augmentation surgery: saline and cohesive silicone gel. Each has advantages and considerations regarding look, feel, and potential risks.
  • Implant Profile: This choice involves how far the implants project from the chest. Options typically include low, moderate, moderate plus, and high-profile implants.

During your consultation, Dr. Camp works closely with you to select the options that will best achieve your desired look. He takes the time to understand your goals and uses his expertise to recommend the most suitable implant type, size, shape, and profile for your body.

What Is Motiva Preservé?

Motiva Preservé is a gentle breast augmentation technique designed to add fullness with Motiva® breast implants while preserving the breast's natural shape, nipple sensation, and internal support structures. Benefits include:

  • Small incisions tucked in the breast crease
  • Minimal swelling and discomfort
  • Faster recovery
  • Soft, natural-looking, long-lasting results that move with your body

During your consultation, Dr. Camp works closely with you to select the options that will best achieve your desired look. He takes the time to understand your goals and uses his expertise to recommend the most suitable implant type, size, shape, and profile for your body.

Many patients have the option of IV sedation with local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia.

Dr. Camp has specialized training in Motiva Preservé technique and is currently the only plastic surgeon in Fort Worth offering this leading-edge approach to breast augmentation, typically available only in larger metropolitan areas.

Motiva® implants provide superior results with both the Preservé technique and traditional breast augmentation. Advantages include:

Why Motiva® Implants Make the Difference

  • Designed for smaller incisions: They are highly compressible for easy placement through small incisions, making them perfect for the Preservé tissue-preserving approach.
  • More like natural breasts: The implant gel and shell are designed to move more naturally with your body, helping breasts feel soft and responsive rather than firm or static.
  • Advanced surface technology: The SmoothSilk® implant surface (shell) is biocompatible to reduce the risk of rupture and complications like capsular contracture.
  • Created for modern breast augmentation: Whether using the Preservé technique or a traditional approach, Motiva implants are designed to enhance shape while being true to your anatomy.

Ideal candidates are happy with their natural breast shape, have good skin elasticity, and want augmentation without a lift. Preservé can provide beautiful results with smaller implants for patients who want the "yoga boobs" or "ballerina boobs" look. For a lift, significant reshaping, or larger implants, patients may require traditional techniques.

Recovery is typically faster with minimal swelling and discomfort compared to traditional breast augmentation because the Preservé technique gently separates breast tissues to make room for the implant instead of cutting through them.

The less invasive nature of the surgery allows for a safe, comfortable patient experience using a local anesthesia with IV sedation (twilight sleep), making deep general anesthesia unnecessary in most cases.
