Liposuction is an essential element of a Brazilian butt lift, which Dr. Camp also offers. Fat harvested from your body during liposuction is re-injected into the buttocks, creating a rounder, more contoured rear end.
The liposuction techniques available today include various technologies, including laser-assisted and ultrasound liposuction. None of the techniques has been shown to produce better results than the other, and Dr. Camp believes power-assisted liposuction using the proven tumescent liposuction technique offers safe and reliable results.
During tumescent liposuction, Dr. Camp begins by infiltrating the treatment area with a saline solution that includes a local anesthetic and epinephrine, which helps limit bleeding. Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure and, in most cases, requires the use of a general anesthetic. Once the treatment area is numb, Dr. Camp inserts a specialized micro-cannula — a small tube that breaks up the fatty tissue and suctions it from the body. Power-assisted liposuction enables him to move the cannula with less manual force, resulting in less bruising and soreness compared to other types of liposuction.

VASERlipo is gentler and less invasive than traditional liposuction techniques. Ultrasonic vibration breaks up fat, freeing it from the surrounding tissue before Dr. Camp suctions it from the body using a cannula. The advantages of VASERlipo compared to other techniques include less swelling and bruising, more precise targeting of fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue, and less downtime and discomfort during the recovery.
The heat generated by the ultrasonic energy melts the fat, making it a preferred option for areas of fibrous fat, which can be more difficult to remove than subcutaneous fat. Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) also uses rapid vibration to break up fat but doesn’t generate thermal energy.
This innovative skin tightening treatment can be used as a stand-alone procedure or to enhance liposuction results. One of the concerns with liposuction is that moderately saggy skin doesn’t “shrink to fit” the body’s new contours once the fat is removed. Renuvion’s combination of thermal radiofrequency energy with cold plasma energy enables Dr. Camp to promote skin contraction immediately after liposuction without the risk of burns.
Cleared by the FDA, Renuvion involves inserting a small probe through small incisions, targeting the skin from below rather than through the surface. The groundbreaking technology produces immediate skin contraction and can be used in multiple areas during a single treatment session, including the stomach, back, inner and outer thighs, arms, bra fat, waist, and flanks. Dr. Camp uses Renuvion effectively and safely virtually anywhere on the body where he performs liposuction or where patients have lax skin.
Using the local anesthetic in tumescent liposuction results in a more comfortable recovery compared to a general anesthetic. Immediately after completing the procedure, Dr. Camp bandages the area and has you wear a compression garment that helps minimize swelling. Excess fluid drains from the tiny incisions and is absorbed by the bandages, greatly reducing the risk of having fluid trapped within the tissue.
Dr. Camp provides detailed postoperative instructions that, when followed, enhance the recovery process and lead to optimal results. Depending on the specific treatment area, you should plan on wearing the compression garment for 3 to 7 days after the procedure. Most patients can return to work about 2 days after liposuction and can gradually resume their exercise routine starting about 4 days after the procedure.
