3 Reasons Why Breast Augmentation Is So Popular

Reasons for getting breast augmentation at our Fort Worth practice.

Breast augmentation isn’t just popular in Fort Worth; statistics show that it’s the #1 plastic surgery procedure in the United States. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons®, there were 300, 378 breast augmentation surgeries performed in 2017 (a 3% increase from 2016, when this procedure also claimed the top spot). There are plenty of reasons why breast augmentation continues to rise in popularity. Here are 3 of them:

1.  Advancements in Breast Implants

Breast implants are better and safer than ever before, specifically with regard to silicone implants. In the past, women worried about silicone leaking out of their breast implants and into their body. But today’s silicone breast implants have a thicker, more cohesive gel that doesn’t leak or ooze, even if the implant ruptures.

There are also more innovative breast implant options available. Whereas 20 or 30 years ago women only had 2 decisions to make about their breast implants (the size and whether they wanted saline or silicone), women today have the opportunity to choose the implant shape, texture, profile, type, and size. These options give you a more personalized, unique look that will be more flattering to your body shape.

2. Stigma, Schmigma

Decades ago, women who had breast implants were sometimes stigmatized as superficial or shallow. Today, however, this is no longer the case. Plastic surgery has become more mainstream, and both men and women feel much more comfortable being honest about having “work done.” This is due to many reasons, including the rise of social media and the influence of celebrities who post and share their cosmetic surgery experiences. The shame that was once associated with wanting or having plastic surgery has been replaced with empowerment as people realize that they have control over their appearance and their confidence.

3. Rewards > Risk

With the improvements in plastic surgery techniques, as well as the breast implants themselves, the rewards of breast augmentation far outweigh the risks. Thanks to more minimally invasive surgical options, women can now have breast augmentation on a Friday and go back to work on Monday. Techniques to reduce bleeding and minimize your time on the operating table help speed your recovery and reduce the likelihood of complications like capsular contracture.

Although breast augmentation is safer, it’s still important that you choose a board-certified plastic surgeon to perform your procedure, and that you don’t bargain shop. Your body and your health is worth much more than a discount.

Breast Augmentation at Camp Plastic Surgery

As one of the top plastic surgeons in Fort Worth, I take a very customized approach to breast augmentation. I begin the consultation by performing a complete exam and listening to your goals for surgery. I may also use the Vectra® 3D imaging system to show you what results you can expect.

Once I understand what you want from surgery and have performed all the necessary measurements, I’ll create a detailed surgical plan. Together, we’ll discuss important considerations like your lifestyle and aesthetic goals to determine the best implant size. I’ll also explain any additional surgical techniques I recommend, such as the Keller Funnel®, and discuss how you might benefit.
